The Historical Archive of Mexico City "Carlos de Sigüenza y Góngora" is the archive of Mexico City. It is under the Ministry of Culture of Mexico City, and cares for the documentary fonds from 1524 to 1942. It is located in the Palace of the Counts of Heras and Soto in the Historic Center of Mexico City. As well as documents it has a historical collection of plans, photographs, maps and books.
In addition to the documents and volumes in the palace's headquarters, it has the Library Network of the Historical Archive of the Federal District, which includes the libraries Joaquín García Icazbalceta, Jaime Torres Bodet and the Documentation Center "Francisco Gamoneda".
The Palace of the Counts of Heras and Soto, considered by researchers such as Manuel Toussaint as a singular architectural jewel, 5 was, from 1933, a winery. In 1972 it was acquired by the then Department of the Federal District and in 1980, as part of the delimitation of the Historic Monuments Zone of the Historical Center of Mexico City, it was restored and converted into the Historical Archive of Mexico City.
In 2008 it was given the name of Carlos de Sigüenza y Góngora, in honour of the researcher and intellectual who managed to rescue some documents from this archive after the fire of the Palacio Virreinal -now National Palace- after the Mutiny of 1692 in Mexico City.
The conformation of the file began in 1524, with the establishment of the local government of the new capital of New Spain. The first inventory was made in 1778 and in 1849 Lucas Alamán promoted the publication of the minutes of the city council of Mexico. The archive is divided into special branches and funds:

- Gobierno del Distrito Federal (1815-1928)
- Departamento del D. F. (1920-1992)
- Cárceles (1900-1985)
- Esperanza Iris (1879-1975)
